(AGU) & (UNEP): GEO 4, Environment for Development, Sunday 11th. Nov. 2007
Under the Patronage of His Excellency Minister of State of the Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nazar Al-Baharna, & Her Excellency Prof. Rafia Obaid Ghubash, President of the AGU, the (AGU) and (UNEP) organized a distinguished celebration, Sunday 11th. Nov. 2007 on signature of the current international report in the series of (The Global Environmental Outlook (GEO4, Environment for Development). This report contains ten chapters provides an overview of the global and regional environmental, social and economic state and trends over the past two decades. It highlights the interlinkages, challenges and opportunities that the environment provides for development and human well-being. The report also presents an outlook, using four scenarios to explore plausible futures up to the end of 50 years, as well as policy options to address present and emerging environmental issues.
It is worth mentioning that the concerned AGU academic staff are used to contribute with more than 1000 international expertise in preparation and revision of GEO report series which is a significant primary reference on outlining national biodiversity strategies and policies for sustainable healthy environment and classified as a distinguished source of informative data for the field of environmental studies. Moreover, the university is nominated as the main center of the UNDP West Asian regional branch for its remarkable progressing and participation to increase the environmental awareness in the GCC States.
