Establishment of the middle east regional center for the un water virtual learning (un-wvlc) at agu, in collaboration with the international network on water, environment and health (inweh), united nation university: canada

Reference to the agreement of cooperation signed on the 23rd of July 2007, between the (AGU) and the International Network on Water, Environment and Health (INWEH) of the United Nation University in Canada, a regional branch of the United Nation Water Virtual Learning Center (UN- WVLC) with support from the UN Development Account, has been established for the Middle East, at the (AGU).  The objective of the center is to improve water resources management and services in the region for the Middle East,  by offering training and education on the water sector via a course program on distance-based postgraduate studies for diploma in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). The program is created with material from over 60 international sources and customized at (AGU) with local examples and case studies. It consists of 10 modules and a comprehensive final exam awarding the “United Nations Academic Diploma in (IWRM) by the United Nations University. The (IWRM) curriculum offers broad-based coverage of the principles and practices of (IWRM), providing the students with core knowledge in the natural sciences, engineering, health, governance, public administration, social sciences, sciences, economics, resource conservation,  and strategic planning..

It is worth mentioning that, the program particularly targets qualified expert professionals  currently working in water-related sectors with nomination from the GCC and Middle East countries, and its competent graduates will be entitled to continue upgrading their study for the Master (MSc) degree in Water Resources Management at (AGU). Lunching of the program will be in November 2007, that  the courses is planned to  be offered by March 2008.
