A delegation from the Saudi Ministry of Education visited the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) premises to discuss means of joint cooperation, learn about the latest academic programmes of the colleges of Graduate Studies and Medicine of AGU, discuss means to benefit from the potential of the University's research and medical centres, in addition to how supportive they are of the national needs of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The delegation, which consisted of the Director General of Equivalence of Certificates in the Ministry of Education Dr Hisham Al-Tuwaijri, Head of the Higher Education Affairs Unit at the Ministry Dr Nashmi Al-Rashidi, and Deputy Cultural Attaché in the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom of Bahrain Abdulmohsen Shabaneh, took a tour of the two colleges, their programmes and laboratories.
The delegation also visited the University Medical Centre of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City and the Princess Al Jawhara Al Ibrahim Center for Molecular Medicine and Inherited Disorders.
Dr Khalid Al-Ohaly, President of AGU, said that the visit comes in the context of the periodic consultative meetings between the Saudi Ministry of Education and the university aiming to inform about the new doctoral programmes.
He pointed out that all the master's programmes offered by AGU are accredited by the Saudi Ministry of Education.
“The Ministry has also approved some of the PhD programmes, while other are currently being reviewed for accreditation. AGU is a research university specialising in innovative and unique programmes, research and studies that address the strategic needs of the Arab Gulf community. The university offers PhDs in Innovation and Technology Management, Biotechnology, Molecular Medicine, Gifted Education, Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources,” Dr Al-Ohaly explained.
AGU has had a strong relationship Saudi throughout its history. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided morale and financial support to AGU in various stages, most notably through the “Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation Special Education Programme” which supported the university's programmes for individuals with special needs, promoting scientific research in this field and qualifying specialised academic and educational cadres.
Princess Al Jawhara Al Ibrahim also donated to build a centre specialised in Molecular Medicine and Genetics; in addition to the generosity of the late Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in granting AGU a sum of 1 billion Saudi Riyals for the construction of a Medical City, affiliate of the university.
The University has recently prepared the first State of the Environment Report for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It has also trained Saudi cadres in the field of Environmental Indicators and has contributed to the review of Saudi Arabia's National Water Strategy as well its Comprehensive Water System.
On a related side note, AGU is proud to have graduated 925 students from Saudi Arabia who contribute to the advancement of development and innovation in various fields. AGU also currently has 335 students from Saudi.
