KELLER’S MOTIVATION MODEL AS A DESIGN VARIABLE OF AN E-TRAINING ENVIRONMENT AND ITS EFFECT ON DEVELOPING KUWAITI TEACHERS’ COMPETENCIES OF E-LESSON PREPARATION AND THEIR MOTIVATION

Authors: Alajab Mohammed Alajab
Abstract: Developing e-Training environments for professional development purposes isn’t the major concern in the field of educational technology and eLearning technologies research and development. But the major concern should be on how to develop these environments based on sound learning theories, learning models, motivational models, strategies, and instructional models implementing developmental research method. This research aims at designing a Keller’s motivation model as a design variable of an e-Training environment and discovering its effect on developing Kuwaiti secondary school teachers’ e-lesson preparation competencies and their motivation. So, the developmental research method was implemented. Then, a list of e-Lesson preparation competencies that included (8) in knowledge and (9) cognitive skills in cognitive aspect of Competencies along with performance skills was derived. A list of instructional design standards of designing the e-Training environment based-on Keller’s model that included (13) standards and (95) of their indicators was derived. The Keller’s Motivation Model as a Design variable of the e-Training Environment was developed implementing Elgazzar (2014) ISD model and refereed conform the design standards and was ready for the research experiment. Three research instruments: an achievement test for cognitive aspects of the e-lessons competencies, a product evaluation checklist for performance aspects of the e-lessons competencies, and a motivation scale derived from Keller’s model of the e-training environment were developed and proven to be valid and reliable. The Research sample was (22) secondary school teachers in a quasi-experimental design for one experimental group with pre-post measurements. The 1st author carried out the research experiment, research tools were administered pre and post the experiment, and finally, data was collected and processed for testing the research hypothesis. Data analysis revealed that the Keller’s Motivation Model as a Design variable of an e-Training Environment has effects on developing all aspects of e-lessons preparation competencies and motivation to learn, participants reached a mastery level of 85%, and had a large effect size. The research report includes references, tables, figures, a list of recommendations, and a list of future fellow up researchers.
