The Effect of Designing an Induction Program on New Student’s Satisfaction and Attitude at Distance Teaching and Training Program, Arabian Gulf University.

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to measure the effect of designing an induction program for new students accepted on the Distance Teaching & Training program at Arabian Gulf University during the academic year 2010-2011 on students’ satisfaction and attitude. Also, the research was trying to investigate students’ expectations, threats and concerns which may face them during studying in the program. To achieve these purposes, researchers have used a mixed methodology of quantitative and qualitative research. The results revealed that the new induction program has a significant effect on students’ satisfaction. Also, the results showed that the new induction program does not affect on students’ attitude toward studying in distance teaching and training fielded. In the meanwhile, most of the new students’ expectations were focused around: delivery mode, evaluation techniques, methods of supporting online learners, and time devoted for studying in the program. Based on these results, a set of recommendations and suggestions were mentioned to improve students’ performance in distance teaching and training program.
