   Terms of Registration and Admission into the College of Graduate Studies (Masters and PhDs)

The Arabian Gulf University announces that the registration for the Academic Year 1431/1432 – 2010/2011 has begun and will be accepting students of both sexes who are of GCC nationalities into the Higher Education programs.

General Terms for Admission

  1. The student must be a GCC national. Students of other Arab nationalities could also be considered if there are vacancies available.*
  2. Students of the GCC countries must be candidates from the Ministry of Education (or Ministry of Higher Education) of their respective countries.
  3. A GPA of the student must not be below B or 3.0/4.0 when applying for the Master’s programs and no less than 2.0/4.0 when applying for a Diploma of Higher Education
  4. The student must successfully go through an interview and any other tests or academic requirements that are required by the specific programs and/or the university.
  5. The student must pass a physical examination.
  6. The student must present the University with a certificate of good conduct and behavior from the university from which he/she graduated from.
  7. The student must pay the tuition fees.
  8. The applications and documents (GCC students) must be given to the Ministry of Education or Ministry of Higher Education in their specific countries depending on their fields and a copy of them should be sent to:

*Students of other Arab nations must apply directly to the Arabian Gulf University.

The College awards Higher Education Diplomas and Masters in the following fields:

Technical Studies

Desert and Arid Land Sciences

This field includes the following programs:

  • Hydrology and groundwater resources management
  • Agricultural techniques and Hydroponics
  • Environmental sciences and natural resources
  • Geographic information systems and remote sensing

Masters and Master’s level diplomas are awarded in the above-mentioned specialties.

In order to be accepted in these programs, students must have received a bachelors' degree, or the equivalent, in one of the following fields:

  • Science ( biology/chemistry/ecology/geology)
  • Agricultural Sciences and Agricultural Engineering
  • Hydrogeology
  • Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources

Water Resources Management Program

Students must have completed a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in a scientific, agricultural, engineering, or economic field that has some connection to the program. They must also be someone who works in the water resources field:

A Graduate Diploma and Master’s are awarded in this program.

This program also offers an Advanced Degree in Integrated Water Resources Management from the United Nations which is in taken online, and prepares the students for a Master’s in the field.

Biotechnology

  • Agricultural Biotechnology (including its various branches)
  • Medical Biotechnology
  • Environmental Biotechnology
  • Industrial Biotechnology

This program offers both a Diploma and a Master’s in the above-mentioned specialties. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in one of the following:

  • Science (biology/ biochemistry/ biotechnology/ ecology)
  • Agricultural Sciences (including its various branches)
  • Medical Laboratory Technology (including its various branches)
  • Pharmaceutical Studies (including its various branches)
  • Basic Medical Studies
  • Veterinary Sciences (including its various branches)

Technology Management

This field specializes in improving strategies and competences, along with developing the available technologies that are needed to achieve goals that can lead to improvement both strategically and practically for all the GCC organizations, facilities and societies.

This program offers both a Diploma and a Master’s in three different specialties (Engineering, IT, and Business), and the applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent in one of the following:

  • Business (Business Management)
  • Engineering (including its various branches)
  • Economics
  • Computer Science and Information Systems

This program is offered in the evening as to allow those who are managers, or have practical experience in the field to move into the program directly.

Environmental Management Program

The Environmental Management Program specializes in the study of the effects of development on the environment, and devising solutions to limit those effects by using environmental management systems to enhance the competitive ability of business facilities. This program also concentrates on creating environmental policies on a national level.

This program offers both a Diploma and a Master’s in Environmental Management. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent. Applicants who are employed in fields related to environmental management, and those working in the public sector, or in business organizations will be prioritized.

This program is offered in study units that allow for maximum flexibility so that students are able to include it into their work circumstances, educational and employment demands.

Education Studies

Mental Disabilities and Autism Program

This program offers its participants the knowledge, experiences and skills that will enable them to comprehend and apply the theories and research results to attain the best on the job performance. This is achieved through training educators and preparing them in the field of mental disabilities/retardation and autism. It also provides them with a number of competencies that the student will utilize after graduating from the program, which include knowledge competencies, educational competencies, and research competencies.

This program awards Diplomas and a Master’s in Special Education with a specialization in Mental Disabilities and Autism.

To be accepted into this program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education in the following fields:

  • Special Education
  • Education
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Social Services

Learning Disabilities Program

This program aims to train educators to teach in the field of learning disabilities and also to train specialists in this field. It also aims to provide national teams of researchers in the field of learning disabilities.

This program gives its participants the necessary knowledge and skills to recognize those suffering from developmental and academic learning disabilities. Students are trained in methods to discover them early, diagnose them, and come up with strategies and study programs, and suitable restorative interventions.

This program awards Diplomas and Master’s in Special Education with a specialization in learning disabilities.

To be accepted in this program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education in the following fields:

  • Special education
  • Education
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Social services

Gifted Education Program

The Gifted Education Program at AGU aims to prepare educators and specialists who are responsible for recognizing gifted and outstanding students at an early stage. This includes discovering their talents and abilities, and coming up with plans and schemes to utilize and enhance those abilities regardless of the type, form, or advancement of these abilities so they can be developed to the fullest for the good of the society and its development and advancement.

This program awards Diplomas and Master’s in Special Education with a specialization in Gifted Education.

To be accepted in this program applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education in the following fields:

  • Special Education
  • Education
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Social Services

Distance Learning Program

The Distance Learning Program specializes in the knowledge and skills that are needed to use the information technologies and communication technologies needed to create, manage and execute learning and training programs and courses from a distance: be it physical or otherwise. Examples of distance education focused on are e-learning, blended learning, VLEs, and interactive learning over the internet.

This program awards Diplomas and Master’s in training and educating from a distance.

To be accepted in this program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent education in any academic field. Students with English language proficiency and those who have computer skills will be prioritized.
