The Effectiveness of a Training Program in Developing Non-Verbal Communication skills among Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD)

Abstract: This research aimed at verifying the effectiveness of a training program for developing non-verbal communication skills among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).The research sample selected consisted of (14) male children with ASD ranging between (7-14) years old; distributed into two divided grpoups one experimental group and control group enrolled at the School of Autistic Behavior in Kuwait. The research tools included (1) a training program prepared by the researcher to develop non-verbal communication skills among children with ASD, (2) the non-verbal communication scale modified by the researcher. The research results found that, there were statistically significant differences among the experimental group between the pre- and post-test of non-verbal communication scale for children with ASD, there were statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in the post-test of the non-verbal communication scale for children with ASD, and there were no statistically significant differences between the pre-test and the follow-up application of non-verbal communication scale for children with ASD among the experimental group.
