First Bahrain International Obstetrics and Gynaecology Conference

In the presence of over 200 local and international participants, the first Bahrain International Obstetrics and Gynaecology Conference will be opened by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) HE Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel on January 10, 2020.

Held under the theme “Recent Advances in Women Health”, the conference is organised by the Arabian gulf University (AGU) in strategic partnership with the Labour Fund “Tamkeen”, and will witness the participation of 200 doctors, researchers, academics, students and health professionals from around the world.

On this occasion, Conference President and Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department Head in AGU Dr Diaa Rizk explained that the conference will discuss several recent scientific advances witnessed in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, clarifying that this field experiences many developments that divides it into detailed specialties that have contributed to the development of treatment and disease prevention. 

Dr Rizk explained further on such specialties, stating that the urinary tract in obstetrics and gynaecology (uro-gynaecology) has become a delicate specialty that deals with involuntary urination and uterine prolapse, adding that it previously fell under the specialties of urology. 

He also said that this delicate medical specialty provided many advanced drug and surgical treatments that have contributed to improving women's health in general, adding that the advanced management techniques for childbirth made available nowadays by modern science have contributed to avoiding many diseases that are related to uterine prolapse.

The conference will also address recent developments in the field of treating gynaecological oncology, as well as the advanced technologies in the comprehensive examination for early detection of tumours and the modern vaccines that work very efficiently to prevent them. 

Dr Rizk added that the conference will also shed light on several important topics, such as the new methods for treating fertility and reproductive impairment, and the recent developments in this field, scientific developments in the field of foetal medicine and pregnant women, early detection of foetus congenital malformations through ultrasound and m​easurement of signs of deformity through blood test signs, in addition to advanced treatments for diabetes and hypertension during pregnancy. 

Additionally, the results of 10 recent clinical researches will be presented during the conference, which also hosts two specialised workshops. Awards for the best scientific presentation and best research poster have been allocated and will be presented to the winners by the end of the event, and an exhibition for health centres and contributing companies will be held on the side-lines of the conference. It’s worth mentioning that the first Bahrain International Obstetrics and Gynaecology Conference is supported by Bahrain Gas “Banagas” and Al Baraka Banking Group.
