King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Chair for Medical Biotechnology Reviews an RNA-Based Therapy

The King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Chair for Medical Biotechnology hosted Prof. Roland Brock, Professor of Biochemistry at Radboud University in the Netherlands and a Visiting Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), to present a scientific lecture and workshop on “RNA Therapies: From Basic Science to Clinical Applications”.

During the lecture and workshop, attended by a number of PhD and Master’s students and several faculty members at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Brock touched on the latest developments in the field of RNA technology therapy, which is considered one of the modern innovative methods for treating many genetic, cancerous, inflammatory and other diseases. 

Recently, this technology has been used to manufacture many vaccines for intractable diseases as well as viral diseases such as the COVID-19 vaccine.

For her part, Dr Mai Salah Sater, Head of the Biochemistry Department and Supervisor of the King Fahd Scientific Chair for Medical Biotechnology, stressed the importance of these scientific events in contributing to the advancement of scientific research and identifying all developments in the field of health biotechnology and keeping pace with them. 

Commenting on the occasion, she stated: “This field plays an increasingly vital role in shaping the future of health care, especially in the areas of vaccine development, biological treatments, and treatment of genetic diseases.”

Dr Sater also expressed her appreciation for the support of His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of AGU, highlighting his commitment to the scientific chairs and the advancement of scientific research in the GCC countries.
