Bio

     Dr. Sumaya is currently the Director of Institutional Communication Center and Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering at Arabian Gulf University. Chairperson of the Natural Resources and Environment Department Formerly and an Kingdom of Bahrain. Founder of Professional Diploma in Waste Management.  She is a Chartered Resources and Waste Management Manager and Fellow CRWM MCIWM, FCIWM; awarded by the Chartered Institute of Waste Management CIWM, UK, 2021. She earned her PhD. & MPhil. in Engineering, University of Warwick, 2013- 2019.  Dr. Sumaya is a Japanese Government fellow, as a graduate studies researcher in biosystem sustainability at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan.  She was selected as one of the top 12 leading women in West Asia in the field of Climate Change by UNEP, 2022 and selected as one of the top three women influencers in the Middle East in the field of Science and Technology for 2020 by Women News Agency, 2021. ECO-MENA role model for Arab Women who made typical contributions in the field of Waste Management in their countries for 2016 & 2021.  Dr. Sumaya is the winner of many awards including the LO’REAL-UNESCO Pan-Arab Regional Fellowship and Award “For Women in Science” 2013. Leadership Excellence for Women Awards and Symposium (LEWAS) 2021 (Academic Achievement for University Professor Award).
