--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/682;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The conference aimed to strengthen regional and international scientific cooperation among academic and research institutions concerned with microbiology and its applications in biotechnology, review the latest studies and innovations in the field of environmental microbiology, and apply research findings to develop practical solutions to challenges related to the environment, agriculture, and industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>During the conference, Professor Wael Al-Meslamani presented the findings of a scientific study titled \u201cFunctional Responses and Compositional Changes in a Halophilic Bacterial Community During the Biodegradation of Oily Sludge from Oil Spills.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The study highlights the role of bacterial communities adapted to high-salinity environments in biodegradation processes, as well as the potential these processes offer for developing innovative environmental solutions to treat oil spills and mitigate their impacts, particularly in harsh environments.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.agu.edu.bh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Conference-4-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14540 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.agu.edu.bh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Conference-4-1-980x551.jpg 980w, https:\/\/www.agu.edu.bh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Conference-4-1-480x270.jpg 480w\" data-sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1024px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/576;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For her part, Ph.D. student Ghaneima Al-Mulla presented a research poster titled \u201cBeyond Sulfate Deficiency: Oligotrophy in Bacteria Capable of Biosulfur Removal from Fuel,\u201d which addressed a research topic related to understanding the physiological characteristics and nutritional requirements of bacteria involved in the biosulfur removal from fuels, thereby supporting the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of biotechnology and its industrial and environmental applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The conference lasted four days, with the participation of 12 speakers from international universities and scientific institutions in the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as researchers representing 28 countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Its sessions covered a variety of topics in microbial ecology, the microbiome, biotechnology, and sustainability, while also exploring the research potential offered by the unique environments of the Middle East\u2014including desert, marine, and hot spring environments\u2014and encouraging the use of their characteristics to develop innovative scientific applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"801\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.agu.edu.bh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Conference-5-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14542 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.agu.edu.bh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Conference-5-1.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.agu.edu.bh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Conference-5-1-480x427.jpg 480w\" data-sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 900px, 100vw\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 900px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 900\/801;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Furthermore, the conference focused on enhancing knowledge transfer and the application of modern technologies, linking basic research to practical applications, as well as supporting young researchers and graduate students by providing opportunities to present research, exchange experiences, network with experts, and build international research collaboration networks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Arabian Gulf University\u2019s participation in this conference is part of its efforts to strengthen its scientific presence regionally and internationally, expand opportunities for cooperation with academic and research institutions, and contribute to the development of biotechnology-based solutions to address environmental and industrial challenges.
