The Arabian Gulf University's (AGU) Gender Equality Committee organised a field trip to the Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre in observance of Bahraini Women's Day.

The visit aimed to highlight the creative and traditional crafts of Bahrain, showcasing efforts to preserve this heritage and promote its development.  The Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre is a leading institution dedicated to preserving traditional crafts and ensuring the sustainability of handmade industries.

The visit included a tour of the centre, where participants explored various Bahraini handicrafts, including carpets, ceramics, and textiles.  They also interacted with the centre's artisans and learned about their initiatives.

Pro. Randa Hamadeh,  AGU's Head of the Gender Equality Committee, stated that the visit aimed to familiarise the AGU community with Bahrain's historical and cultural heritage.

She expressed appreciation for the achievements of Bahraini women under the reign of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
On this national occasion, the Gender Equality Committee members extended their warmest congratulations to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women.  Moreover, they expressed AGU's pride in the achievements of Bahraini women throughout history and across various fields.

In a related initiative, the committee distributed a survey to gauge student awareness of gender equality in conjunction with Bahraini Women's Day.  They also presented an overview of the AGU's Gender Equality Committee's objectives and efforts, emphasising the importance of achieving equality between men and women in all aspects of life – work, education, and social life – and providing opportunities for everyone to develop skills and participate in various fields.

It's worth noting that the Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre, located in the Al Jasra area, is a cultural and artistic institution dedicated to preserving Bahraini craft heritage and promoting traditional crafts as part of the Kingdom's cultural identity.

It also aims to empower Bahraini women and enhance their participation in handicrafts, providing training and support opportunities. The centre offers training and educational opportunities through workshops in various traditional crafts, such as Bahraini carpets, weaving, ceramics, and pottery, helping to transfer skills and knowledge to new generations.
