The Department of Nursing at Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has organised a series of specialised workshops targeting nurses selected to serve as clinical supervisors for nursing students. This initiative is part of the university’s efforts to enhance the quality of practical training and improve nursing education outcomes.
The workshops focused on developing the academic and practical skills of clinical supervisors, equipping them to effectively oversee student training and assess performance professionally. This approach offers a supportive learning environment that empowers students to acquire essential clinical competencies for their future careers.
Dr Hawazen Al Rawas, Head of the Department of Nursing at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, stated that the workshops were conducted over two days for each group and attracted a remarkable turnout of 109 participants from various healthcare institutions. This reflects the strong professional partnership and mutual trust between the university and the healthcare sector.
She added, "The clinical supervisor is fundamental to shaping a competent nursing professional. Their role goes beyond assessment to include guidance, inspiration, and the building of students' confidence. Investing in supervisor training is a direct investment in quality healthcare and patient safety."
The training programme included interactive sessions on the foundations of effective clinical supervision, as well as student evaluation mechanisms, and the roles and responsibilities of clinical supervisors. Discussion touched on best practices and shared experiences among participants, aiming to standardise and elevate supervision efficiency.
Participants commended the organisation and content of the workshops, noting that standardising supervision promotes fairness in student assessments and elevates professional practice within healthcare institutions. The workshops further strengthened communication and collaboration between the university and healthcare providers, reinforcing their strategic partnership. This positively impacts the quality of nursing education outcomes and community service, while demonstrating the university’s ongoing commitment to preparing qualified healthcare professionals aligned with the highest professional and academic standards.
