The Dean of the College of Education, Administrative and Technical Sciences and Professor of Water Resources Management at Arabian Gulf University, Prof. Dr. Walid Khalil Zubari, affirmed Arabian Gulf University’s commitment to developing academic programs and scientific research in the fields of the environment, climate change, and natural resource management. He noted, in conjunction with World Environment Day, that this approach aligns with the needs of countries in the region facing growing environmental challenges that require innovative scientific solutions.

He highlighted the university’s commitment to its academic and research role in supporting regional and international efforts aimed at protecting the environment and promoting sustainability concepts, noting the university’s ongoing support for applied scientific research and the involvement of students in field projects that contribute to understanding environmental issues and proposing practical solutions through various academic disciplines, such as the Master of Science in Natural Resources and the Environment, in addition to organizing scientific events and specialized seminars discussing environmental issues throughout the academic year, and offering professional training programs in the fields of resource management and sustainability to achieve the sustainable visions of the GCC countries and raise environmental awareness among the Gulf community.

He said: "Protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation among academic institutions, government agencies, and the private sector, thereby contributing to sustainable development and ensuring a more balanced environmental future for coming generations. The Arabian Gulf University plays a pivotal role in this field by offering specialized academic programs in environmental sciences and sustainable development, in addition to supporting applied research targeting environmental issues in the region.” He explained that World Environment Day, observed on June 5 each year, is an international occasion aimed at promoting environmental awareness and stimulating global efforts to protect nature and reduce pollution and climate change, and this year's theme underscores the importance of collective action to ensure the sustainability of natural resources and protect ecosystems for future generations.

World Environment Day serves as a platform to highlight academic and research initiatives in the Arab region, particularly in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf states, where there is a growing need for innovative scientific solutions to accelerating environmental challenges, such as desertification, water scarcity, and marine pollution. Through its colleges and research centers, the university is conducting scientific studies on water quality, natural resource management, and climate change, and encourages students and researchers to participate in field projects that contribute to finding practical solutions to local and regional environmental challenges.

Dr. Zubari noted that World Environment Day is an opportunity to renew the call for enhanced cooperation between universities, government agencies, and the private sector, in order to build an integrated system for environmental protection and to strike a balance between economic development and the conservation of natural resources. At the same time, experts emphasize that academic institutions, led by the Arabian Gulf University, have become essential partners in Gulf and regional efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development goals by linking scientific research with society’s environmental needs.
