King Fahad Academic Chair

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) was honoured to host the chair of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the late King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in the field of Health Biotechnology since 1997/98 AD, with a donation of (1,500,000) one and a half million Saudi Riyals, to spend on academic activities from the grants of the chair.

Sheikh Jaber Academic Chair

Since 1997, the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences at Arabian Gulf University has hosted the academic chair of His Highness the late Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah, former Emir of the State of Kuwait, in the field of clinical microbiology and immunology, with a generous grant amounting to (9,375,000) nine million three hundred and seventy-five thousand Saudi Riyals.

Sheikh Hamad Academic Chair

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has hosted the Academic Chair of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in the field of Geographic Information Systems since 1997. The chair’s funding amounted to (5,155,630) five million one hundred and fifty-five thousand six hundred and thirty Saudi Riyals. Several professors have supervised the chair since its inception, including: Prof. Mohamed Belaid (2000 - 2012), Prof. Abdul Razzaq Bennari (2013 - 2015), Dr. Sabah Aljenaid (2016 to date).

Sultan Qaboos Academic Chair

The chair was established at the Arabian Gulf University in October 1994, due to the importance of desert farming in the GCC countries, under the directives of the late Sultan Qaboos. The chair is considered the third Omani chair to be established among sixteen academic chairs in various international universities under the supervision of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science.

Sheikh Zayed Academic Chair

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) hosts the academic chair of His Highness the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the field of Environmental Sciences. The chair was established in the academic year 1997/1998 and was initially funded for three years. In July 2003, a cooperation agreement was signed between the university and the Zayed Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works in the United Arab Emirates

WHY AGU?

Establish the University's overarching framework for scientific research priorities in alignment with the University's strategic objectives and the recommendations of the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.

Approve the general directions of the University's graduate programs in collaboration with the colleges and the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.

Recommend the appointment of faculty members, lecturers, teaching assistants, and research assistants at the University.

Review applications for academic promotion to the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor, and make the appropriate recommendations.

Approve the regulations and governing policies for scientific research and graduate studies, and submit matters requiring approval to the University Council.

Review scholarship applications submitted by teaching assistants and lecturers, and make recommendations accordingly.

Review applications for sabbatical leave and academic exchange leave, whether submitted by University faculty members or by faculty from other universities seeking to undertake such leave at the Arabian Gulf University.

Review proposals for the establishment of research chairs.

Approve the general framework governing research chairs, determine their financial requirements, and approve their annual reports.

Recommend the approval of new or revised academic study plans after review and endorsement by the relevant colleges and committees.

Review proposals for the establishment of new colleges or academic departments and submit the appropriate recommendations to the University Council.

Review requests for the publication of scholarly books and make recommendations accordingly.

Review applications for faculty service extension and post-retirement contracts.

Recommend the establishment of scientific societies and academic clubs.

Propose policies for the evaluation and registration of scientific innovations, regulate intellectual property rights, and approve the registration of scientific innovations.

Review applications for postdoctoral researchers submitted by the University's colleges, centers, and academic programs, and recommend them to the University President.

17

Establish the Scientific Council's committees and define their responsibilities.

18

Recommend scientific awards for faculty members.

19

Consider any matters referred to the Scientific Council by the University Council or the University President.
